Explanation:
Custos legis is neither a Latin term used in English-speaking Common Law countries, nor does it appear in any legal Latin dictionaries or glossaries I have to hand. So there is no point leaving the term in Latin.

Procurator generally in administrative matters and, in E&W, the Queen's and now King's Proctor intervening primarily in divorce and probate case where there is a hint of foul play or collusion.

Example sentence(s):
  • Custos Legis (Fiscal da Lei). O MPF atua também como fiscal da lei, sempre que em determinado processo haja questão de interesse público subjacente.
  • General supervision was defined by Soviet writers on administrative law as meaning *supervision by the procurators over legality in administration*.

custos legis
guardian of the law

Explanation:
I don't believe this Latin phrase is well-known to most speakers of English. I would definitely translate it.

Example Sentences

Prosecutor's Office is no longer a mere guardian of the law (custos legis) to become guardian of society. (custos societatis)... https://caroa.org.br/revista/index.php/rima/article/download...

When acting as custos legis, that is, as guardian of the law. 83. Article 955 of of Brazilian Civil Procedure Code. 84. “Article 300. https://www.dechert.com/content/dam/dechert files/knowledge/...

Indeed, a search for "custos legis" + "legal definition" produced most results associated with Brazil, some from Brazilian websites. There were a few instances on English-only websites. This somehow confirms that this Latin expression is not very well-known to English speakers.
