On a misguided English Barrister-cum-politician's note, a famous UK QC MP - who shall remain nameless - once intoned at an Annual Bar Conference Dinner in London that Che Guevara had been a shining example of a brilliant, revolutionary Cuban Advocate, once with a thriving law practice in Havana. The stubbornly ignorant speaker, unfortunately, refused to accept my correction, post-speech and post-my return from Cuba, that the description matched that of Fidel Castro rather than that of Che of the 'Otra Vez' motorbike diaries. Moral of the story: 'beware of Englishman categorically claiming to be right'.

More context would be helpful, especially perhaps the target country/variety and the requirements for the different levels of nursing in the source country, i.e., how one becomes an 'enfermera universitaria' in Argentina, with a view to matching those requirements to a country-suitable option ... or not, in the case of a more generic (country-neutral) option being the target. Either way, more context and any possible confirmations would be very useful.

Si se entiende 'enfermera universitaria' como una profesional que se encuentra en una etapa previa a la licenciatura (casi como un técnico con un diploma o tecnicatura), quizás licensed practical nurse (LPN), ya que dicha cualificación en EEUU se trata precisamente de una inferior, requiriendo muchas veces una serie de materias específicas de 'community college' (o instituto técnico) para tomar el examen correspondiente. Habiendo dicho eso, quizás "licensed nurse" o "trained nurse" (a secas) podría servir.

Hola Marcelo González! No se trata de si es licenciatura o no. En Argentina "matriculada" se refiere a pertenecer a un "Colegio" ("Association") que se encarga de regular el ejercicio de las profesiones. Dicho colegio otorga una matrícula ("License"/"Register", etc), de ahí el término "matriculado".

How many native-like options could there be? In the U.S., there are only two, as far as I know: a licensed practical nurse or licensed vocational nurse. Other positions would not include the equivalent of 'enfermera.' As for the target variety, I'm guessing an option widely used in North America might be acceptable in this context of a text from Argentina. It would be helpful to get clarification on this.

When I saw the query, I thought it meant a "student nurse" (estudiante de enfermería). There are too many differences in the categories and terminologies between countries and systems (UK vs USA, etc.) for me to risk suggesting a solution.

Dices que no se trata de un registered nurse (RN) porque esto viene siendo "enfermera matriculada", ¿y esto es porque requiere de una licenciatura? En EEUU, para ser RN no se necesita licenciatura. Basta con obtener un associate's degree en enfermería y aprobar el examen. Across such different systems, establishing equivalencies can be a challenge. In the US, it's all about the exam (colloquially referred to as the 'boards') and the requirements that must be met to take it.
