pre-eclampsia Explanation: Pre-eclampsia (also preeclampsia, without hyphen) is the most common term now used in English for this disorder, also known as toxemia of pregnancy, or gravidic toxemia. Preeclampsia and eclampsia are hypertensive disorders of pregancy. The word "gravidic" means "occurring in pregnancy" or "relating to pregnancy or a pregnant woman."
