Spanish term
Montar
Spanish to English
Tech/Engineering
Computers (general)
Networks, servers
I'm translating a risk assessment document related to an internet company and the verb "montar" is used several times, and despite doing a bunch of research, I've not been able to figure out exactly what it refers to in the context. Here are some example sentences:
"Dos de los dos sistemas que monta este servidor son críticos:" - in reference to a back-end server, and the fact that they consider a failure in said server to constitute a medium-level risk.
"Servidor sin acceso público. Sólo se permitirá el acceso desde el servidor de frontend y el de apps. Monta una BBDD MySQL y un servidor de caché memcached." - describing the back-end server.
I really am quite lost as to how this should be translated. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks in advance!

to host
The first one could be "both of the systems hosted on this server". I'm not sure what the second one means, because I don't know how one server can host another, but perhaps someone who knows more about computers can clarify this. BBDD appears to be base(s) de datos - I'm not sure why it appears to be plural.
You could also say "running/installed on".

: I wouldn't go that far. I just think it means "contains/holds/has/ houses ... (etc.) a MySQL DB and a memcached server"...

Thanks. Does that mean the contents of another server have been uploaded to this one, do you think?

: Ah, I hadn't read down to the bottom. Those options would work for me, given Lester's explanation of informal usage of "montar."

One of its meanings is set up and i think this one suits the context especially it's regarding Systems and servers.

I'm no expert in IT, but experience suggests to me that this is simply jargon and means 'cuenta con' 'tiene' 'opera con'. Reminds me of car reviews of the type:
"El nuevo Clio monta un motor de 16 válvulas en línea de última generación que genera una potencia de... etc".
'Cuenta con' or simply 'tiene' would have meant the same.
A posher version of 'use' would be "operates on/with".
But the beauty of 'uses' is that it is very unlikely to be really wrong.

: That's a good point. "Montar" isn't used that way here in Mexico, but I can see what you mean. Perhaps you could also use "run"?//Well, "montar" used in that way is new to me, so I wanted to credit you for teaching me something new :-)
