I'm no expert on this topic, but I'm not convinced of rendering this literally. The best I've come up with is "(... reduces) the area involving synthesis of vasodilator substances. Here's the text:

"Aún no se conoce el defecto de la interacción de los tejidos maternos y fetales que causa esta penetración trofoblástica insuficiente, pero sí se sabe que debido a ésta, persiste una vasculatura uterina de menor diámetro y mayor resistencia que disminuye el territorio de síntesis de sustancias vasodilatadoras (prostaciclina, óxido nítrico), y que la placenta isquémica libera a la circulación materna factor(es) hipertensógeno(s) aún no conocido(s)."
