level sounding/sounding of the level Explanation: I think the asker is on the right track - I think "sonda" here is "sounding." This refers to a measurement of the depth of a fluid at a specific location, whether in a tank on board a ship, or for navigation on the Mississippi River, or for bathymetry in the ocean or some other body of water. In the ocean, among other variables, the influence of tidal variations on these measurements has to be taken into account. The desired final product is determination of the "true" water level, however that may be defined in a given situation. The velocity of sound may have to be accounted for, if the measuring method uses sound waves. |
