Hi all,
Does anybody know how to say the word "binder" in Spanish other than "carpeta"?
Thanks

Discussion

Aquí estoy... ¡Perdón por la demora! Certifico que la traducción correcta es ARCHIVADOR. Whoever says a "binder" is a carpeta, please answer this question: You see folder icons throughout Microsoft programs. Do they look like 3- or 4-hole binders? ;)

Chile Este documento es para personas de Chile... Hay alguien de Chile aqui?
Hinara Mar 1, 2004:
It probable refers to a ring binder so in this case it would be cuaderno /carpeta de argollas
Non-ProZ.com Mar 1, 2004:
binder The text I'm translating has goes like this:"...binder, folders,.." Folders in Mexico are called "carpetas" so I can't use "carpetas" twice in the same line...

What's your objection to "carpeta"?

portafolios / archivador

I would translate it as "carpeta", but there are terms that the Diccionario de Sinónimos de Espasa Calpe gives as synonyms: portafolios and archivador.
Good luck,
Silvia

cuadernillo

CUADERNILLO COULD BE ANOTHER OPTION, BUT WE COULD FIND A MORE ACCURATE TERM IF YOU PROVIDE MORE CONTEXT.

agree Hinara : or cuaderno de argollas (if ring binder)

carpeta / fólder

The Royal Spanish Academy (RAE) dictionary includes fólder, so I'd suggest you translate binder as carpeta and folder as fólder. Good luck

archivador

In Spain we call it "archivador", not carpeta.

Excuse me for not knowing how to answer on the top box. In Spain, as I told you, carpeta is the translation of \"folder\" and \"archivador\" the translation of binder. 100% per cent sure.

Excuse me again, but for Spain and some Latin American countries, do not use \"carpeta de argollas\", please.
