This is from the Esame Obiettivo section of a report on a patient with multiple chronic problems: kidney failure, dilated myocardiopathy, diabetes ... etc.

"... il pz tiene decubito attivo indifferente."

We've had "decubito indifferente" before -- translated by lirka as "no orthopnea" (see: https://www.proz.com/kudoz/italian_to_english/medical_cardio...

How do I translate "decubito attivo indifferente"?

Since the verb is "tenere", you could add something like "maintains a good position in bed, moves independently without limitation", if you feel it's necessary, but I don't think the emphasis here is on the patient's ability to maintain position - I think it is the lack of impediment to movement.

---> It seems the concept is actually broader than just eupnea/orthopnea. Still, I find several references online, where decubito attivo is used synonymous to decubitus and/or obviously with reference to orthopnea.

Based on where the statement on decubito attivo appears in your report, and what the patient's major complaints were at that time, you may (hopefully :-) be able to identify the specific meaning of 'being able to maintain a lying position'. (I don't think a similarly ambiguous equivalent of 'decubito indifferente' exists in English medical report lingo.)
