Italian term or phrase: patacche d’autore
Narrator has received a second letter of rejection from a publisher who he sent a manuscript to for publication. Publisher has told him his text is pretentious and that he comes across trying too hard to prove his intelligence as a writer.

"Il suo testo rappresenta quelle che noi definiamo “patacche d’autore”. "

I can see that this means fake, junk or phoney type writer, but is there a commonly used term here?

neutral  philgoddard: "Authorial cowpats" might be a nice idea, except I can't find any evidence that it means cowpat.

-> It means a dirty or greasy mark but I've heard it used in the country to refer to cowpats
