Уважаемые коллеги.

Вы не подскажете, как в оригинале звучит этот афоризм Чарли Чаплина?

Спасибо.

Sep 4, 2017 15:19: Nik-On/Off changed "Level" from "Non-PRO" to "PRO"

Sep 18, 2017 09:34: Frank Szmulowicz, Ph. D. Created KOG entry

Votes to reclassify question as PRO/non-PRO:

PRO (3): Mikhail Kropotov, P.L.F. Persio, Nik-On/Off

When entering new questions, KudoZ askers are given an opportunity* to classify the difficulty of their questions as 'easy' or 'pro'. If you feel a question marked 'easy' should actually be marked 'pro', and if you have earned more than 20 KudoZ points, you can click the "Vote PRO" button to recommend that change.

How to tell the difference between "easy" and "pro" questions:

An easy question is one that any bilingual person would be able to answer correctly. (Or in the case of monolingual questions, an easy question is one that any native speaker of the language would be able to answer correctly.)

A pro question is anything else... in other words, any question that requires knowledge or skills that are specialized (even slightly).

Another way to think of the difficulty levels is this: an easy question is one that deals with everyday conversation. A pro question is anything else.

When deciding between easy and pro, err on the side of pro. Most questions will be pro.

* Note: non-member askers are not given the option of entering 'pro' questions; the only way for their questions to be classified as 'pro' is for a ProZ.com member or members to re-classify it.

Discussion

Turdimurod Rakhmanov Sep 4, 2017:
I would suggest this version, I think this is better:
Who has never been a child, grows not into adults (or can't be adult)
Turdimurod Rakhmanov Sep 4, 2017:
Mikhail Kropotov Sep 4, 2017:
Позвольте предложить свой вариант:

He who was never a child will never grow up.
Turdimurod Rakhmanov Sep 4, 2017:
I am not sure how and when he, Mr. Chaplin said, but I translated:
Who has never been a child can't be an adult.
Susan Welsh Sep 4, 2017:
urban myth? The fact that I don't find any such quote online, except in one bad translation from Russian, suggests that he never said it. https://www.facebook.com/zareckyphotography/photos/a.5964008...

He who was not a child will never be an adult

This also appears to be a translation from, perhaps, a non-existant original quote.

agree Jack Doughty : Yes. "Man embraces woman", as they used to say before free speech was killed off by political correctness.

Thank you, Jack. I guess this comes from an era where "he" stood for "one:" he and she.

Thank you.
neutral Mikhail Kropotov : Это неграмотная конструкция. Да, Вы правы: с "he" лучше.

This is better word order: konstruksiya: He who was not a child will never be an adult, but the first one is also correct order.
