Perex , in journalism - news and journalism , is the introduction to the article, short text (usually 2-5 sentences), the purpose of which is to point and draw attention to the following longer article text and / or to indicate what the article will be. What is not enough to capture a caption or subtitle is to divide the perex so that the reader can decide whether to spend the time reading the whole article and whether it is a topic that interests him. In its original polygraphic meaning, perex is thought to have a headline width across all columns to the full page of newspapers or magazines (from lat extensively ). More recently, under the influence of English, the term lead appears, meaning the same.

Per extensum (lat.) alebo perex je v typografii textová časť sadzby (resp. spôsob sadzby) výnimočne sádzaná na celú šírku stránky medzi sadzbou členenou do viac stĺpcov. Týka sa najmä nadpisov a úvodov článkov v novinách.
