sur le pied de
In the translation of a legal document from French (Luxembourg) where there is a discussion of how shares in that partnership are divided up when a partnership is dissolved, or when a partner dies, or when the partner simply wishes to disengage from the partnership.
Given the context, I have no idea how to translate "sur le pied de."
Here is the context:
...que, bien que les engagements sociaux soient contractés au nom et pour le compte de la
société, ils obligent indéfiniment les associés « chacun pour une somme ou part égales,
encore que la part de l’un d’eux dans la société fût moindre, si l’acte n’a pas spécialement restreint l’obligation de celui-ci
sur le pied de cette dernière part » (article 1863).
