English term or phrase: He could finish
Hello everyone,

Two famous football players talk about each other.

Ian Rush: I always remember one day when Kenny said ‘you just run into that space’. I didn’t go, and he had a bit of a go at me, so I thought next time it comes I’ll run into that space. I ran into the space, the ball came to me and I scored a goal, and it clicked then you see: not many people can put the ball in that space but Kenny’s one of them, and he wasn’t even looking half the time.

Kenny Dalglish: Rushie probably underplays the part he played in the success of Liverpool Football Club. ***He could finish***, any way!

Although the phrase itself is very simple, I can't understand its meaning in this particular context.

Does "He could finish" imply he could finish his career at Liverpool?

Thank you.

he could score (a goal)
Explanation:
"finish" here means to complete the action of running (into the space" (goal area) and then striking and scoring

Just to add, Rush is saying that Kenny Dalglish is feeding the ball into the space=box/goal area effortlessly "not many people can put the ball in that space but Kenny’s one of them"

and all he has to do really is put the finishing touch to it
"I ran into the space, the ball came to me and I scored a goal..."

agree  Charles Davis: No doubt at all. And it's true, Rush was one of those players that was always in the right place in the box and almost always put it away. No English team I've ever seen has come close to Liverpool in that era. They were like Brazil.
