I was referring to the askers comment, "I'm not translating it into English; I want to figure out what it means...". This is the sort of thing that can be written in the question summary. It could have prevented a lot of unnecessary effort with translators trying to find good translations for the term, that are ultimately not needed.

I think the meaning is to be read from the opposition of Moi/Toi and Vous/Nous. The name cannot be translated of course, but you can indeed provide explanations as to the intended meaning.

FInally, I do not agree that it is "non sensical" and "absurd" as you say. The restaurant may be considered a little snooty, but that's not the point. The point of the name is that is conveys the range of clients they wish to attract and would refer you to the content of my previous post).

As this is a proper noun, it should not be translated. However, I think you realize that, given the last phrase of your post.

However, I read this slightly differently to previous posters : the moi/toi is the familiar form, the vous/nous is the plural and/or formal version. I think the idea is that the restau is good for both intimate and formal occasions. I don't think it is using any tongue-in-cheek references, directly or indirectly, to a distinction between ordinary and chic. It does mean it is for all, but I don't think any restaurant would touch on the upstairs/downstairs socioprofessional distinctions to attract clients. I'm almost certain its a reference to suitability for both informal/formal occasions.

I still think it should not be translated, nor need it be.

if Restaurant is know for being Snooty, than perhaps play of words is on "Toi" et "Vous". Chez pecking order......something n that sense?

Most English people understand this common phrase and there are many cafes and restaurants (even one round the corner from my London home) that uses "Chez Moi" with no translation.
