What follows is a related KudoZ question that underscores what would appear to be a significant difference across systems with regard to academic rank and promotion; indeed, many if not most full-time faculty positions at US colleges and universities do not even allow for consideration of tenure, having been classified as non-tenure-track appointments. In contrast, at some Mexican universities (including the one at which I taught in Oaxaca), all full-time faculty with doctoral degrees may be 'profesores-titulares'.

En el glosario de Kudoz hay 33 entradas con "tenured" y más de 70 con "tenure". Creo que haces muchas preguntas, pero nunca acudes al glosario (¡y muchas veces son términos que tu mismo/a has preguntado!).

This normally requires a rigorous peer review process undertaken in the candidate's the sixth or seventh year and only for 'tenure-track' faculty members. In rare instances, an accomplished (ie widely published and recognized) scholar can be hired with tenure already granted. This ccompetitive nature of the process is what makes this term such a challenge to translate, as it's not easy to find an equivalent process in Spanish-speaking countries.
