German term

eingedrückt

German to English Medical Medical (general) Orthopädie
"Darüber hinaus hatte ich auch eine Brustkorbverletzung und die Lunge war eingedrückt."

Ein Patient beschreibt so die Folgen eines Umfalls, in einem ärztlichen Gutachten für seine Versicherung. Ansonsten sind keine Lungenverletzungen erwähnt.

Discussion

Magdalena Kowalska (asker) Feb 5, 2016:
The patient was subsequently treated in the Ruhrland clinic for this; this is a lung centre, so apparently something serious was involved, like a collapse.
Magdalena Kowalska (asker) Feb 5, 2016:
He sustained multiple rib fractures, so that could apply. He also had "Hämothorax traumatisch rechts" - "Hemothorax is the presence of blood in the pleural space. The source of blood may be the chest wall, lung parenchyma, heart, or great vessels". It is just not described what exactly happened to the lung.
Ramey Rieger (X) Feb 5, 2016:
Jakub's link Causes

Collapsed lung can be caused by an injury to the lung. Injuries can include a gunshot or knife wound to the chest, rib fracture, or certain medical procedures. Does this apply? If it does, I can agree with Jakub.
Ramey Rieger (X) Feb 5, 2016:
Hey there Magdalena! Bruised? If there are no other lung injuries, collapsed seems rather dramatic, but this is not my field.

contused

FWIW. I think that patient might have sustained a pulmonary contusion or contused lung due to his accident.

Pulmonary contusion is trauma-induced lung hemorrhage and edema without laceration.

Pulmonary contusion is a common and potentially lethal chest injury that results from significant blunt or penetrating chest trauma. Patients may have associated rib fracture, pneumothorax, or other chest injuries. Larger contusions can impair oxygenation. Late complications include pneumonia and sometimes acute respiratory distress syndrome (ARDS).
Symptoms include pain (mainly due to injury to the overlying chest wall) and sometimes dyspnea. The chest wall is tender; other physical findings are those of any associated injuries.

What is a pulmonary contusion?
A pulmonary contusion is bruising or bleeding of your lung tissue that may cause pain and trouble breathing. It is a common lung injury after a blunt trauma to the chest. The force of the trauma may cause bleeding and swelling inside one or both of your lungs.
What are the signs and symptoms of a pulmonary contusion?

You may have more than one of the following:

Chest pain

Trouble breathing

Coughing up blood or large amounts of watery sputum (spit)

Fast and shallow breathing

High-pitched wheezing when you breathe out

Blunt chest trauma can cause severe acute pulmonary dysfunction due to hemo/pneumothorax, rib fractures and lung contusion.

Asker's context: "Ein Patient beschreibt so die Folgen eines Umfalls..."

His pancreas and liver and a kidney were damaged. A lung was pushed in but not punctured.
Somehow, his tiny ribs did not break under the weight of the truck.

agree Anne Schulz : Ja, irgendetwas allgemeinsprachliches wie "pushed in" oder "compressed" wäre hier angebracht.
