acting tough Explanation: If someone walks in a bar with an atitude, talking loudly, acting tough, they are "metendo a banca". It is possible to translate it to "busting caps", but not inside the given context. I'd say that this poem is probably from one of the biggest cities in Brazil, I'd even risk say its from São Paulo, for the slang, and for the meaning given by people from this city, i'd recommend this as a good translation.
