Greetings

The context: a quote from the skeptic Will Rogers: "The money was all appropriated for the top in the hopes it would trickle down to the needy."

This is a reference to a favourite argument of supporters of free market capitalism: the idea is that in such a system, the money trickles down to the poor and needy so it is in their best interests too. The form I quote has actually become something of a cliché.

Yes. Ms. Asnaashari suggested رخنه کردن ثروت به پایین in her peer agreement comment. I think it is a good way to say it.

رخنه کردن به پایین Dear Edward, the term "trickle-down effect" is translated into Persian as اثر رخنه به پایین, which I also think is a very good way to convey the meaning. We can translate this sentence like this: تا سهمی/پولی نیز از اقشار ثروتمند به اقشار کم درآمد رخنه کند or تا پول از طبقات به بالا به پایین رخنه کند

question... The suggestions are all OK as far as the basic meaning, but I feel there must be a better way to convey the image of the money "trickling" or "dripping drop by drop" from the top/rich to the poor.

What I am looking for is some imagery here.

What about something like:

ثروت/پول که قطره قطره از قشر بالا به فقرا برسد

This may not be the best Persian way to say it, but you get the idea.
