Steffen I know that. I had a closer look at the English, parts are absolutely ok and parts are lousy.

Steffen yep, I had a look at the website, translations are not that great. But I think customer knows as they stopped doing their translations in-house. But I will point it out. Let me assure you, I did not do the translations.

Agree with Steffen Seffen you are exactly right about the English being substandard in this broschure. It could do with input based on knowledge of milk production and analysis.

Let me just point out that the English and French translations of this brochure are clearly substandard.

Steffen, Phil Thanks. I found the text now, never knew it existed. I know that customer tried to do the translations in-house but I was not aware of the fact that part of the website is in English. I will talk to them. I am happy to have colleagues like all of you.

@ Edith Have you been asked to improve upon the existing translation? In the 3-language brochure, the English version is the very general "we offer additional services", covering the various things listed on that page, e.g. customised solutions, support & consulting, arranging seminars, etc. The French version, on the other hand, is "xxx a d‘ autres domaines de compétences !"

Es geht also darum, dass sie auch ganz spezielle Anforderungen erfüllen können, die nicht unbedingt ihrem Standardrepertoire entsprechen? „Zusatzkompetenzen“ scheint mir hier im Deutschen nicht so ganz der passende Begriff zu sein (zumindest nicht in Kombination mit „sind für uns kein Problem“). Ich vermute, es soll aussgesagt werden, dass das Unternehmen auch bei ganz spezifischen Kundenanforderungen kompetenter Ansprechpartner ist und entsprechende Lösungen entwickeln kann.

This might be a bit far-fetched, but is probably as vague as it gets (the German is equally 'blurred'), meaning that they wouldn't have any problem whatsoever to come up with additional/customised/... solutions if and when required by their customers.

Danke für die Zusatzinfo. Die inflationäre Verwendung von "Kompetenzen" ist irgendwie typisch deutsch ... und ich bin mir sicher, dass du diesen "false friend" im Englischen schon ausgeschlossen hast.

Wenn die "extra mile" etwas unseriös erscheint (diese Meinung teile ich für die englische Version nicht unbedingt), dann vielleicht so:

Count on our comprehensive expertise
We'll provide comprehensive/complete solutions to you

Danke Steffen, klingt gut. Nicht sicher, ob das hier passt, das ist nämlich ein international anerkanntes deutsches Prüflabor und ist meiner Meinung nach nicht seriös genug. Die sprechen im Text auch dauernd von Kompetenzen

Extended capabilities

Zusatzkompetenzen - is usually used in reference to supplementary educational programmes or training. The direct equivalent in English is - Extended skills. In the reference document they make it into a phrase "extended and advanced skills" .
In a business context you can use expertise instead of skills.
In this context though I think the you have to change skills or expertise into "capabilities", because they are refering to the equipment capability as well as their own capabilities as experts.
In the full slogan - "are not a problem" - is poor English for a commercial text. It has to be changed to something positive e.g.
"Extended and advanced capabilities are our speciality"
