Eu acho que é um uso antiquado. Não é resposta ao agradecimiento, equivalente a 'de nada', senão que forma parte do agradecimento mesmo, para reforça-lo. Proponho então, uma frase em inglês que eu acho bom equivalente, bastante formal e antiquado (ainda que tal vez não tão caido em desuso como a frase em português).
