''Arrogant people'' do bad things and this is one of those objective realities of which the next generation of humans could benefit from.

Discussion

James (Jim) Davis Dec 1, 2013:
@Fiona Only translate with superiority if your interpretation is just a guess and you "have no guidance from the author" (as you did Fiona). In other words, if you really don't know, and can't find out, then you don't have much choice. This reminds me of stuff I've read on art, where the authors are really speaking in riddles. Also in the case of the translation of a dissertation, it may be a case of verging on "cheating" if you improve on the original saying what the author meant to say rather than what he actually said.
Rosario Liberto (asker) Dec 1, 2013:
Ok, thanks everyone for your help.

Poor English You should have written "one of those objective realities from which the next generation of humans could benefit."
Fiona Grace Peterson Dec 1, 2013:
Things don't always mean what they seem to... I would warn against saying "superiorità" definitely has to be translated as "superiority"; sometimes the actual meaning is quite different to what it seems at first glance. A translation I once worked on had the phrase "Sono tribale tra le mie cose." When I asked him what "tribale" meant in that particular context, he said "isolated". Not saying James is wrong. But I would caution against making sweeping statements where translation is concerned. One size does not fit all.
James (Jim) Davis Dec 1, 2013:
A load of Kant When the English first read Kant, they gave up after the first ten pages or so and (rightly or wrongly) said it was incomprehensible metaphysical waffle with no relation to reality. The saying "a load of Kant" was born from this. Without guidance from the author I would translate literally. Superiorità is a superiority and arroganza is arrogance. One can only assume that the author deliberately wishes to be enigmatic.
Rosario Liberto (asker) Dec 1, 2013:
I see...here are the two preceding paragraphs and then 'la superiorità delle cose brutte'' comes, hope it helps :

James (Jim) Davis Dec 1, 2013:
You need to give us more (lots) of the Italian Is "loro" the next generation of Italians? We can't translate through a key hole. We need to see a lot of the original here.
But "secondo me", but "secondo il ragazzo?". Ask the author if you are unsure of the meaning.
Rosario Liberto (asker) Dec 1, 2013:
Yes, sorry Jim for not specifying the type of dissertation. The Italian source is a dissertation on dreaming a world different from ours '.
James (Jim) Davis Dec 1, 2013:
Ask the author Rosario "sto aiutando un ragazzo a tradurre la tesi, " Or alternatively give us more of the italian source, becausein isolation this sentence is gobbledy gook.

superiority

" The superiority/arrogance" of bad people is one of those objective realities with which they might be in a profitable situation.

As per the context, the " loro" here should be "they", however if the complete context is known , the meaning may differ.

"Secondo me quel ''superiorità'' si riferisce alla gente che si sente superiore agli altri. Poichè quel '' loro'' potrebbe risultare ambiguo nel significato, specifico che si riferisce alla ''nuova generazione degli uomini che nascerà''.

As per the context and information given by you, I am not too sure if "loro" would mean a new generation of men to come. In simple terms, it should mean, " they".
