He or she has a degree in economics from x Explanation: I would just say: He or she has a degree in x from y. I wouldn't get into bs or ba or whatever because basically it's in a text and in English if you say: has a degree in or READ X [in the UK], you are saying the person has a four year degree or the first level of degree. |

"Degree in Economics" Explanation: I must emphasize, however, that even though the the source appears not to refer to the kind of degree(undergraduate or post-graduate) in this instance, should I have any indication as to the exact type - and think it would be in my client's interest to be more specific - I would translate as BSc or Bachelor's Degree or PhD etc. Portuguese to English translations often require that one translates the very general and broad Portuguese terms into more precise and context sensitive English. -------------------------------------------------- Note added at 2003-10-04 18:50:27 (GMT) -------------------------------------------------- Clearly, I agree with Ana, Jane and Antonio |
