well you are right in one respect Marcos, as that is what asker has as first line - not sure if that is something he has added on his own, but it doesn't fit with the actual posting, or with what I have found about ITER (or what I know about Nuclear power/electricity generation in a research facility) ... anyway enough for me ... it appears not to stem from a real translation job either :)

I see what you mean. I read it as meaning that the "évacuation" was from the power generating station ("évacuation de l'énergie des centrales", but I could be wrong.

As your reference shows, the "imported energy" is removed from the experimental reactor with cooling water. This water, in turn, has to be disposed of and its heat needs to be dissipated somehow.

thanks Marco ... but they don't need to get rid of the "imported" energy - they use it (transfer process) ... anyway enough of this, it can quickly get complicated ps. It does say above "sub-station", so we are not talking about the cooling system here.... :)

Great job and great link Gail. No power is exported. They just need to get rid of all the energy being imported to operate the machine. "Removal" or "dissipation" would do it in this context.

it doesn't seem likely that it would be distribution or transportation, as ITER is not actually designed to actually produce electricity, or be connected to a grid - it is experimental. From what I can tell, the substation is to supply ITER What I did find though: "Operating the ITER Tokamak will require from 120 MW to up to 620 MW of electricity for peak periods of 30 seconds."

@Marco, there is no refence to the kind of energy...but I myself think it has to do with transportation. My friend wasn't sure though...

... in global English, at any rate. Energy is 'evacuated' when it is transported away from the site where it is generated. Leaving behind a literal vacuum, of course, has nothing to do with it. 'Evacuated solar collectors', OTOH, are just that: vacuum tubes! We've had this term before, always seems to cause problems. I strongly recommend consulting the glossary via a term search in order to see the different solutions that have already been discussed.

Does the context make it clear whether the energy being "évacuée" is waste energy? If that is the case, "dissipation" would do it.
