Barbara, siting may be used for expressing the "determination of a factory, manufacturing plant" or of whatever else. If you enter the German term into dict.cc, the term siting will crop up as the adequate translation. Whether one relies on the quality of this source or not, is a different question.

This is a 21,000- word document, and I have saved my answers for the end, so I don't think the number of questions is excessive. I have searched several dictionaries and glossaries and have not found satisfactory solutions for the items I am asking about. If your willingness to help is waning, then don't help. You are not obligated to answer any questions, if you don't want to.

I agree with Stephen. I was also quite surprised. We all love to help each other, truly we do. But when we see seemingly "basic" questions for words/expressions which, as Stephen says, could be found in standard dictionaries with minimum effort - well... our willingness tends to wane a little.

(or "current state assessment") is the most commonly used phrase, in the sense of "taking stock of the current situation", usually prior to making operational or personnel changes as part of change or risk management process.

Note: the original question contains a spelling mistake: it should be "Standortbestimmung" rather than "Standortsbestimmung".

My version of Dictionary cc doesn't have this word, but what exactly do you mean by "siting?" The OED defines siting as a location for a building. It doesn't really seem to fit in this context.

situational analysis

This term could also be seen from a figurative point of view. Especially in this context it could mean something like situational analysis, status assessment or similar. This term also cropped up in my academic project this weekend (political science) and that is how I used it. You will have to see exactly how (and if) it fits in with the rest of your context though.

agree pj-ffm : I agree, any combination of "situational", "status" and "assessment" or "analysis" would work fine here, but I believe "current state analysis" is the phrase most commonly used in this context.
