Spanish term or phrase: trofismo distal
Hello.
This term crops up in a text about total hip replacement srugery, in relation to the postoperative monitoring of the patient.
I think it might mean distal perfusion, or perhaps distal reflexes, but I can't be sure and I can't seem to find a cast-iron definition on the web.
I would be really grateful if someone in the know would confirm or rule out my understanding of what this term means.
I did manage to come up with the following explanation in Spanish, from a blog written by a nursing or medical student:
"trofismo distal = la situación de los pies: la temperatura, el color, la sensibilidad, el movimiento de los dedos".
However, this is not a definitive source, and there must be a more concise way of saying this in English.
Many thanks in advance :)

(assess/check/monitor) distal neurovascular status

Explanation:
I think that they mean to say that nerve supply and blood flow to the leg must be checked. Checking the neurovascular status of the leg is essentially the same thing.

In agreement with the definition of 'trofismo distal' you mentioned, Neurovascular Assessment is defined here

http://www.flashcardexchange.com/cards/med-surg-exam-6-nurs-...

as follows:

Key Components of Neurovascular Assessment? (P.756)
- Color – Pallor, Cyanosis, Redness, or Discoloration
- Temperature, Pain, Movement
- Sensation, Pulse (Pedal, Radial)
- Strength and Equality of Hand Grip
- Capillary Refill

I just realized that the 'definition' I gave of neurovascular assessment is not a definition at all, but an exam question.
If you do the following Google search: " Neurovascular Assessment" you'll get plenty of hits though, for example

http://www.rch.org.au/emplibrary/mcpc/Neurovascular_Assessme...

Example sentence(s):
 • Evaluate motor strength about the hip and knee ... and assess distal neurovascular status.
 • A careful assessment of the distal neurovascular status is essential.

agree Charles Davis: The medical definitions and accounts of "trofismo" I have looked at support this translation; it seems to mean "el estado de nutrición que tiene un tejido".

-> Thank you Charles// in fact, 'trofismo' se refiere tanto a la inervación como a la irrigación - see e.g. http://apuntesmedicina.thinkingspain.com/tag/trofismo/ (hence the 'neuro' part of 'neurovascular'.

distal trophic state

Explanation:
I am seeing lots of good resources for "trophic state" as the translation for "trofismo". Also trophicity but not as many, some of the latter appear to be from French researchers writing in English.
