Reference information:
It is in fact relating to heritage buildings that scatter (not sure if the corresponding adjective can be used for 'diffuso') around Italian city centres.
I could not find an appropriate translation for this, but as a hint of what 'diffuso' means here, please refer to the concept of 'albergo diffuso' as provided in this website,
