Discussion

Maria Chmelarova Mar 9, 2012:
Veta... "nieco otuzujuce napr.; misky s kockami ladu aby si deti mohli vyskusat ake je to studene."
To nie je otuzovanie. To je slusne napisane "nejaka chyba".
Maria Chmelarova Mar 9, 2012:
Hannah ci je to sloveso a ci nie dk./ned. na tom teraz nezalezi. Preto som uviedla moznosti na zamyslenie.....
Mali by sme najst primerany vyraz vzhladom na tex, ktory sme doteraz nemali. A odrazu ho mame, vdaka Linde, nuz a tak sa uberieme asi inym smerom.
Hannah Geiger (X) Mar 9, 2012:
myslím tedy (možná hloupě neboť mi i nadále chybí kontext), že mají na mysli 'building resistance' or 'building endurance' (to something etc)... cold-resistance, cold- endurance, or the acclimation to something as indicated by Nathaniel2, above možná i 'resilience'
Linda Wood (asker) Mar 9, 2012:
Otužiť ( dakoho, dačo ) = otužovať, otužovanie - inure to ?
otužiť - urobiť otužilým (cvičením, posilňovať) - invigorate
otužilý - zdatný - robust, sturdy
otužilý - odolný proti nákazám - immune, resistant (to)
Nathaniel2 Mar 9, 2012:
hardening I was only saying that I've never heard of 'hardening classes' but there are certainly plenty of physical conditioning classes. Also, 'otuzovanie' is frequently used in terms of polar bear plunges, in which case 'cold water acclimation training' seems to be the phrase of choice.
Hannah Geiger (X) Mar 9, 2012:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hardening
Ten Váš odkaz byl z Indie a měl hrozné hrubky.
A ten Oxford odkaz se týká takové extrémní situace, totéž např. zde “
body hardening is a workout technique used to strengthen the nerves in the body by repeated contact until soreness.
http://alphabodyhardening.com/?p=306
Michal Zugec Mar 9, 2012:
Hardening Napr. definícia priamo z Oxfordu: http://qjmed.oxfordjournals.org/content/92/4/193.full "Hardening means exposure against a natural (e.g. thermal) stimulus, resulting in an increased resistance to diseases, especially to acute respiratory diseases."
Linda Wood (asker) Mar 8, 2012:
dakujem!

Hardening

Example sentence:

Hardening of children and teenagers have always done individually, taking into account their health status. If the child is listless and not much interested in, it shows the exciting procedure (cold water, fresh air, light clothing) to excitable children

disagree Nathaniel2 : I'm sure I'd never associate 'hardening' with 'otuzovanie'. Also, the example sentence is obviously a translation from another language into English, and not a very good one at that:) (certainly no ill will intended by the disagree)

There are plenty of "relevant" google hits, like this one from Ireland "Swimmers call the process of getting better at cold water hardening." "http://loneswimmer.com/tag/cold-hardening/"

physical fitness/exercise

otužiť -urobiť otužilým cvičenim
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Physical_exercise or Physical fitness> in Slovak l. > telesne cvicenie s cielom upevnit zdravie, telesne sa zdokonalit a vychovat
physical conditioning - exercise, methods, test and etc.;
Peer comment(s):

neutral Hannah Geiger (X) : in this context, I would only agree with 'fitness training,' not with 'fitness' by itself because otužovanie describes a process, not a state of being, čili účel je IMHO vyjádřit nedokonavost. 2) yes, I disagree with physical fitness.

you only agree with 'fitness training ' not with fitness, so you agree/disagree with ' physical fitness ' ?
