Collegio = board, panel but noot at all sure how 'garanzia' should be translated here.
Somehow 'guarantee' doesn't feel right.

Discussion

EleoE Jan 20, 2012:
Yes, but here is not that easy. This board is controlling what the disciplinary board does.
Ivana UK (asker) Jan 20, 2012:
I'm going to sleep on it! The translation isn't due in until Monday so will let you know what I decide.
James (Jim) Davis Jan 20, 2012:
Literal translation I am not advising for or against this. I am saying, I am torn between the two approaches. On the one hand the literal approach is easy and lazy, but may nevertheless be the best, and then on the other you need the "equivalent" translation to make sure the reader knows what you are talking about.
EleoE Jan 20, 2012:
I agree with Jim. You might also leave it in Italian and put the literal translation in brackets.
James (Jim) Davis Jan 20, 2012:
Supervisory board is the standard translation for Consiglio di Sorveglianza

James (Jim) Davis Jan 20, 2012:
This Collegio is unique in the sense that it is specific to Italy as defined by the law that created it. In these cases if you use a literal translation (guarantee board, or even guaratee college), it gives a reader a chance to trace the original.
Ivana UK (asker) Jan 20, 2012:
Good point, thanks for your input! Disciplinary Board it is!
Thomas Roberts Jan 20, 2012:
supervisory Perhaps in some contexts this would be ok, but I would tend away from it in this case as article 329ff deals with penalties only and not other regulatory issues you would expect from a supervisory board.
Ivana UK (asker) Jan 20, 2012:
Thx to you both for the lighting speed! Def. a disciplinary board - was toying with the idea of 'Supervisory board' to convey 'garanzia', any thoughts?

disciplinary board

Looking at the legislation referred to I can't see this being anything other than a disciplinary board

neutral Thomas Roberts : You've got a good memory! I would tend towards disciplinary because here the board has the power to impose sanctions // I was reading the law!
