French term

Simple Flux Hygro B

French to English Tech/Engineering Architecture HVAC
Energy systems for low-energy building design. In a table comparing building performances under different HVAC systems, under the column headed v"entilation systems", I've got *"Simple Flux Hygro B"*.

Firefox gives me 11000 GHits but newxt to nothing when crossed with English...
I think we're talking mechanical/forced ventilation, the 'hygro' could be 'humidity-controlled/adjustable", but the "B"?... and the 'single-flow?' (=exhaust only?)

So many questions, so little time...
Ideas more than welcome ;-)

Discussion

Didier Fourcot May 26, 2011:
Naming from one vendor used by the industry As far as I know Unelvent made the first A and B types, the rest of the industry used the same terms, now accepted and discussed by all on the same base
Bourth (X) May 26, 2011:
A and B They could equally well have said "1 and 2", "alpha and bravo" or "α and β" or "σ and ω".

Simply the labels for two different kinds of device, as the ref I quoted explains.

Glen McCulley (asker) May 26, 2011:
A vs B First off, cheers Bourth. Second, I still don't see what the B is for (there's an 'A' in teh atlantic.fr ref) -- or how important it is. I found the isover refs too, but as you said, their French so already translated rather than primary source...
Thanks loads for teh input... we'l see how the question evolves. i think your spot on except i still don't see where the A and B come in...

extract-only humidity-controlled (CMV)

Extract-only humidity-controlled Continuous Mechanical Ventilation.

While simple flux could equally well, in the absolute, be "supply only", I think it would make sense in this case that it should be "extract only" - it extracts air, and if that air falls below a certain humidity level, it stops.

Il existe deux types de VMC simple flux, dont la VMC hygroréglable qui présente l'avantage de limiter le gaspillage de chauffage.
Principe et prix de la VMC hygro B
Il existe deux modèles de VMC hygroréglables :
• VMC hygro B : ses entrées d'air sont HYGRORÉGLABLES, c'est-à-dire qu'elles sont équipées de capteurs d'humidité, ce qui permet une régulation plus fine ;
• VMC hygro A : ses entrées d'air sont, elles, autoréglables et varient donc en fonction de la pression.

Single flow CMV
The outside air enters through air vents located in the main rooms, crosses the air and is then rejected outdoors via service areas (bathrooms, kitchens) thanks to a ventilator block. This can be hidden in the loft.
There are two types of single flow CMV.
 self-adjustable CMV guarantees constant air flow regardless of outside and inside humidity conditions.
 HYGRO-ADJUSTABLE OR “SMART” CMV automatically adapts the air flow to occupiers’ needs according to variations in the humidity rate

[note that this is a Saint Gobain site, so may be influenced by the French. The fact that they refer to "single flow" and "double flow" ventilation rather than "supply only" or "extract only" and "supply and extract" is probably a good indicatino of this]

Kiwipedia has noted :
VMC hygro-réglable DVS – Dehumidifying Ventilation System [NZ trade name]
Though I have yet to establish that this actually IS a hygro-réglable system. I suspect it's simply the pressure-differential type.

agree Didier Fourcot : VMC simple flux: extract only, hyrgro: automatic switching to high speed above a relative humidity threshold, hygro A: regulation at fan level, Hygro B, regulation at each point: http://www.unelvent.com/vmc-simple-flux-hygroreglable.html
