Der Abschnitt setzt sich mit der von der Firma verwendeten Software auseinander. Er bemängelt die Tatsache, dass oft in Software investiert wird, die eine Abschreibungsdauer von 5 jahren hat, jedoch nach 2 Jahren bereits durch neuere Versionen ersetzt werden muss. Danach kmmt dieser Satz. Bilanz kann hier wohl kaum als "balance sheet" übersetz werden, oder?

They still have technology on the asset side of their balance sheet because it's depreciated over five years even though it becomes obsolescent in two. In other words, their depreciation policy doesn't reflect reality.

agree  Jaime Hyland: perhaps "still on our balance sheet" If it's on the balance sheet it's because it still has a value. The writer seems to be saying it shouldn't be there. I'd stick close to the original too.
