Das militärisch akkurate Sandsteingebäude wurde in der 2. Hälfte des 19. Jh. von der königlich preußischen **Festungs-Geniedirektion** als bombensicheres Proviantmagazin mit Kriegsbäckerei geplant.

Otto Freiherr Ellison von Nidlef
Vom 1. Oktober 1892 bis zum 1. September 1894 absolvierte er einen Höheren Geniekurs, den er ebenfalls erfolgreich abschließen konnte. Danach wurde er zur Geniedirektion der Festung Trient versetzt, um am 1. Dezember 1895 zur Geniedirektion der Festung Cattaro kommandiert zu werden.
Ab dem 1. Mai 1899 verließ Ellison den Truppendienst, da er zum Geniestab versetzt und zur Geniedirektion in Brixen abgeordnet wurde.
Anschließend wurde Ellison am 18. August 1911 zum Geniedirektor in Brixen ernannt, mit der anschließenden letzten Verwendung im Frieden als Geniedirektor der Festung Riva ab dem 17. April 1914.

One of six children, Otto attended the Technical Military Academy from he which he graduated on the 18th of August 1889 and was commissioned as a Leutnant in the 2nd Engineer (Genie) Regiment.

After the successful completion of the course he was transferred to the Engineer Directorate at Trient followed by a further assignment to the Engineer Directorate at Cattaro on the 1st of December 1895.

Appointed as the Engineer Director in Brixen on the 18th of August 1911, his final appointment before the outbreak of WW1 was that of Engineer Director of the Riva Fortress on Lake Garda which he took up on the 17th of April 1914.
