Russian term

творческо-лекционные программы, связанные с медиа

Russian to English Art/Literary Art, Arts & Crafts, Painting modern art and art education

Discussion

Inna Edsall Jan 27, 2011:
Susan, I think you are absolutely right. This is what творческий probably means here, workshop or hands-on as opposed to a lecture.
Olga Arakelyan (asker) Jan 27, 2011:
Yes, Susan, I think you are perfectly right. From what I can see on their website at http://www.tretyakovgallery.ru/ru/education/children/creativ... there is a "workshop" aspect there.
Susan Welsh Jan 27, 2011:
"creative" The word "creative" is not used in English the same way "творческий" is in Russian. Sometimes it is ("the creative work of a poet"), but not in a course description of this type. What does творческо actually mean in this case? It sounds to me as though there's a "workshop" aspect to the lectures. In other words, you hear a lecture and then you go and do something with what you've learned (make a film, or whatever media we're talking about). If my guess at the meaning is wrong, then maybe Russian native speakers could explain what such a program would do, and we'll get a better translation.

lecture and workshop programs on the media

The only thing that makes me wonder is that this is for "children." If it's for young children, then "lecture and workshop" would not make much sense. Teenagers, yes. If it's for young children, then I would suggest "classroom study and `hands-on' programs on the media."

I forgot to look at your link! And indeed, it is young children, not teenagers. So, forget my main answer. I would endorse "classroom study and `hands-on' programs on the media."
Note from asker:
Thank you, Susan. Unfortunately, I don't know the age of children there.(( but I will look for more info.
Actually, from my text I'd suppose they are teenagers... I'll have to think some more...
