1. Uso de Estereótipos

A propaganda utiliza estereótipos para criar impressões fixas sobre determinado grupo de pessoas ou povos. Os indivíduos que compõem estes povos, não recebem julgamento em base individual, suas ações são interpretadas de acordo com as expectativas da imagem estereotipada aplicada sobre eles (1)(2). A propaganda incentiva o estereótipo, seja com conotações positivas ou negativas, para angariar simpatia à mensagem propagada e criar ou aprofundar a hostilidade à outras idéias. Como exemplos de povos quase sempre estereotipados podemos citar os judeus (sovinas), os japoneses (só pensam em trabalho), os árabes e em geral os muçulmanos (terroristas), entre outros.

"Glitter" é o que "brilha, reluz", ou seja "está na cara", é tão evidente que o cliente aceita como verdade imediata.

Bem, acho que Nelson Rodrigues tenderia a traduzir a expressão por "óbvio ululante", mas encontrei as seguintes definições de "glittering generalities" na Web, com comentários sobre a técnica:
