French term

parcs de balises de contrôle d'accès

French to English Tech/Engineering Electronics / Elect Eng signal processing
Annual report of a lab X that does applied research on software-intensive technologies. One of the areas of expertise is 'capteurs et traitement du signal'.

The Saphymo website talks about 'access control portals'. Could this be what's meant here?

Discussion

MoiraB (asker) Jun 10, 2010:
The Saphymo site has pictures of balises, but in the context of on-board tracking, not access control. All called beacons in that particular context. The 'portals' are pictured here http://www.saphymo.com/frameset_gb.php?centreloca=http://www... but I'm not absolutely sure the queried French term is the equivalent of these.
polyglot45 Jun 10, 2010:
balises are beacons or transponders (sometimes even in some contexts the word "balises" is also used). Whether here they form part of portals is hard to tell (parc = is collective noun for all of these things). They may be barriers, turnstiles..... The site has no pictures ?

all the different access control transponders

the "parcs", as I said above are sets of, collections of, ranges of i.e. all of them (I suspect it is in the plural because there are different types or designs).

As for the rest, I would not use "portals"because, although the transponders may be set in portals, it does not say so nor may it always be the case.

4 KudoZ points awarded for this answer. Comment: "The lack of good support for 'access control transponder(s)/beacon(s)' is what was worrying me initially, but perhaps 'transponder access control systems' is another option. Thanks to both of you."
