Votes to reclassify question as PRO/non-PRO:

Non-PRO (1): marie-christine périé

When entering new questions, KudoZ askers are given an opportunity* to classify the difficulty of their questions as 'easy' or 'pro'. If you feel a question marked 'easy' should actually be marked 'pro', and if you have earned more than 20 KudoZ points, you can click the "Vote PRO" button to recommend that change.

How to tell the difference between "easy" and "pro" questions:

An easy question is one that any bilingual person would be able to answer correctly. (Or in the case of monolingual questions, an easy question is one that any native speaker of the language would be able to answer correctly.)

A pro question is anything else... in other words, any question that requires knowledge or skills that are specialized (even slightly).

Another way to think of the difficulty levels is this: an easy question is one that deals with everyday conversation. A pro question is anything else.

When deciding between easy and pro, err on the side of pro. Most questions will be pro.

* Note: non-member askers are not given the option of entering 'pro' questions; the only way for their questions to be classified as 'pro' is for a ProZ.com member or members to re-classify it.

coproduits d'origine animale

Peer comment(s):

disagree Tony M : What you are translating is a coproduct; even the ref. you cite makes the distinction between a coproduct and a by-product

Vous avez raison.Merci.
agree Tony M : This is indeed the specific term used by one of my customers, a major manufacturer. Do let's note that the source text says specifically by-products, which I think makes the all-important difference here

Suggestion:

Just because it sounds better than "sous-produits animaux", but both are used.

Source language definitions of by-product

Coproduct / Byproduct Definitions

A coproduct is a product that is usually manufactured together or sequentially with another item because of product or process similarities. The coproduct is defined under an assembly bill of material including a multiplier to align the coproduct quantities with the assembly primary part number. The coproduct will be considered an acceptable receipt for work orders based on the assembly’s primary part number.

A byproduct is material of value produced as a residual of, or incidental to, the production process and can be defined in the Info.Net bill of material, specifying the operation sequence at which the byproduct will be available. Defined byproducts are considered in the standard cost calculations.

And from the ref. cited by Talley Fenney above:

[note ref. in URL to sous-produit]
