Spanish term

lujoso

Spanish to English Art/Literary Poetry & Literature
Hi,
I wonder could anyone help me with the Spanish in the following sentence which is about a poet (Cernuda) who posed for his painter friend (Prieto):
"y los pies de Cernuda, modelo para los pies de Adán en uno de los dibujos de Prieto que ilustran una lujosa edición de El Paraíso perdido de Milton".
Does this mean "in one of Prieto's illustrations of a luxury edition of...." or does "Lujoso" mean something like "exquisite" or "elaborate" in this context? Thank you!

neutral Tom2004 : i'm curious. isn't "lujoso" an adjective? if so, wouldn't it be "luxurious"?

neutral Jim Tucker (X) : Yes it does exist, but this is probably an anachronism (modern marketing lingo) for the asker's text.

agree Evans (X) : I think "luxury edition" is fine, it is used to describe lavishly illustrated books on quality paper, etc. Not "luxurious" in this context.

exquisite

yes
Peer comment(s):

agree Jenni Lukac (X) : I think that Jude has it. If the author wanted to say "edición de lujo", he would have used that term.

Plenty of thanks Jenni.
agree Jim Tucker (X) : something like this; "luxury" is probably an anachronism for the asker's text. Also "lavish" is good.

deluxe (edition)

my personal preference and supported (I suppose) by 20, 900,000 Googilies lol!
Peer comment(s):

agree Bubo Coroman (X) : A deluxe edition because illustrated. Must have been pre-1963 as Cernuda passed away in exile in that year.

I think you would go safe with a direct translation here.

There's absolutely no problem with saying "luxurious edition".
