Evidently a grading scheme in graduate school. Literally, "differential grade". Could it be "grading on a curve" i.e. where the numbers of A and B grades are limited to e.g. 10% and 25% of the class?

To Asker:
No, the form of grading is selected not by student but by the deanery. The student are only warned usually if the test will use this or that form of grading.

It\'s not of a student choice :)

: IMHO the test can't be numeraical... And the asker was interested in a "test", not in the "grade"

When I was a student, there was a special form of grading, that was called "дифференцированный зачет". It differed from an "ordinary" grade (with only two notes& "passed/failed"), as the normal notes were awarded thereto: 2 to 5, so it looked like an exam, though was called a grade. I've never heard about any official quote of good and bad notes per class in the former USSR. Can you specify, where is this form of grading being implemented?

: Well, Your version is good, any "term" may be good, but with an explanation. Yours is good, too... :)

Scaled grade [...some explanation...]
Must be explained as it does not exist in Western world.

I mean test. I think Graded test will be the best one as it:
1) shows that it\'s a test
2) shows that a students gets a grade / mark for it.

differentiated test

Discussion
Could it be where a student may permissibly elect to take a course as pass/fail (zachteno/nezachteno) but chooses to compete for a numerical (or letter) grade instead?
