la actualidad del presente

art history
How would you translate actualidad in this phrase?
Thanks.

the here and now
In this case, I would go with this idiom to express the meaning of the Spanish ST. I believe that this English rendition carries the force of the original.

The Roman emperor Trajan was much more concerned with the here and now. Under Trajan's rule the power of Rome stretched furthest across the world. He was so proud of his military triumphs in what are now Hungary and Romania that he had a detailed record of the campaign carved in white marble in 117AD.

the currency of the present
A difficult one - hope this pushes you in the right direction!

: I've never seen "currency" used in this sense and I cannot find it translated like this in any of my 6 dictionaries. This would translate as: la moneda actual.

: Might lead to confusion with money (the 'coin' used in the present). But a good start...

: just to add, I have seen "currency" used in this way in several academic papers, with precisely this type of wordplay (currency vs. present, also used with "immediacy").

: I agree too Simon, I've also seen "currency" used in this context. Perhaps "the present currency of interest"? Here's an an example of its use: http://newsinfo.iu.edu/web/page/normal/9035.html (see 4th paragraph). I've seen many other similar uses. ;.)

Another option:
“It is the topicality of (today/present times) the one that prevails…”
