German term or phrase: Kein Kind von Traurigkeit
Greetings,

This is one example:

http://www.dict.cc/deutsch-englisch/Arthur Kein Kind von Tr...
Arthur – Kein Kind von Traurigkeit

But it was also used by a murderer from a rich background in "Alisa – Folge deinem Herzen" to confess that he had no excuse: Ich bin kein Kind von Traurigkeit

All the best, and many thanks,

Simon

to possess a naturally happy and carefree disposition
Explanation:
According to my Duden: ‘Wer kein Kind von Traurigkeit ist, hat ein fröhliches und unbekümmertes Naturell’ Duden - Das große Buch der Zitate und Redewendungen, Mannheim 2002 [CD-ROM].

As regards the murderer in 'Alisa – Folge deinem Herzen', he’s probably suggesting that nothing in his background such as a very disadvantaged childhood would account for his having become a killer.

But my possibility is sometimes exactly right.

neutral  Lancashireman: How does one ‘sull’? Is the past participle form ‘sulled’ or ‘sullen’? If the latter, then a ‘sullen child’ is one who has been ‘sulled’ him or herself. Maybe they then go on to ‘sull’ others? Sorry if this just sounds like a lot of pointless ‘sulling’.

-> Thanks, Andrew. And here you find another child of woe! [Oh no..]

agree  DFTS (X): I agree that it is either your answer, or if in the context of the murderer as you explained about not having a disadvantaged childhood: "didn't grow up in poverty/rags"

-> Thank you, Dave122. Bernhard has looked up the context and it seems that what the murderer had been trying to say was that he, too, had been a good-time boy.

neutral  Jim Tucker (X): @ Andrew: actually, if we're talking precision here, it would be the more emphatic "no child of sadness"/ lol
