Tech/Engineering - Medical: Dentistry / Extensometer
German term or phrase: Nachfixierung
"Imbusschlüssel 2,5 mm (Nachfixierung des Messtrogs)"

Talking about an extensometer used to measure dental plaster moulds (or something like that). The above is from a list of parts for it. I can't find a translation for Nachfixierung or Nachfixieren anywhere. Is that Nach part redundant as it was in Nachexpandieren, or does it actually mean something that has to be translated here? TIA for your help.

refixation
Explanation:
This would be my choice - there are many references to be found (however, most of the fulltext articles are not accessible ..., so just insert in Google: * refixation dental bone screw * - or similar).

One source text including refix or refixation in the IMO correct way / with the meaning -> Nachfixierung is this:

Note on Googling:
You have to enter "refixation" (with quotation marks), in order to get this very term, and not just fixation.

After much torturous deliberation, I decided to translate this term as "refixation". However, I think it is also worth adding "post-fixation", as this may well be the meaning in some contexts. Thanks MMUlr, commiserations Johannes and thanks also to Mary for offering an idea. Appreciate everyone's help.

abstract – The influence of various technical procedures on the morphologic details of human premolar root surfaces was investigated. Sixteen formaldehyde-fixed specimens, in some cases post-fixed with OsO4, were air-dried at room temperature or freeze-dried. Four of eight air-dried specimens were fixed in formaldehyde only; another four were also post-fixed with OsO4. Four freeze-dried specimens were dried from distilled water and four from amylacetate. There was no noticeable difference between the specimens with regard to the gross and fine structure of fibrous collagen tissue. The interfibrillar substance was influenced in all cases. Fiber bundles subjected to post-fixation in OsO4 were particularly denuded of interfibrillar substance.

neutral  Johannes Gleim: Not bad, even more frequent than "post-fixation", but there may be a differenciation between "post" (afterwards) and "re" (again).

-> That's exactly my point: not "post", but "re", meaning: an additional adjustment (such as -> "Nachziehen einer Schraube"). see also: http://www.linguee.de/de-en/nachjustierung.html (example: Nachjustierung).
