German term or phrase: wissenschaftlicher und medialer Nachwuchs
Context:

An den Filmteams waren auch Studentinnen und Studenten der Hochschule XYZstadt beteiligt. Damit leisten diese Filme auch einen Beitrag zur Ausbildung des wissenschaftlichen und medialen Nachwuchses.

I feel sure that the 'wissenschaftlicher Nachwuchs' here doesn't simply mean 'young scientists' and I'm really rather stumped by how to translate 'medialer Nachwuchs', but I'm struggling to find a term for either. Perhaps it calls for a single term that covers "both", i.e. 'young film makers'?

English translation:future professionals in the film production industry
Explanation:
Firstly, I am of the opinion that only one term is required. The complete term refers to those training for the film production profession at university. I would write something like "These films therefore also contribute towards training future professionals in the film production industry.!

future film academic and production professionals

Explanation:
Though the term is a bit cumbersome, I wouldn't ignore "wissenschaftlicher"......as the inclusion (unless just hot air) likely refers to involved students' work in Film scholarship and studies--which many German film schools stress.

Perhaps: "These films thus also offer training opportunities for future film academic and production professionals."

or: "film scholars" (but perhaps a bit too academic;-))
"... film scholars and the journalistic practices of professional film critics. ... span the specialised vocabularies of the professional film academic and ..." (http://books.google.com/books?id=vb_1ma9DKH0C&pg=PA130&lpg=P...

agree  Deborah Shannon: But unless we know for sure that all of them are film students, my preference would be 'the academics and media professionals of the future'
