French term or phrase: quartier difficile / quartier défavorisé
On entend souvent cette expression. Le premier renvoie à une image négative des banlieues françaises, où l'incivilité et la violence peuvent régner dans les écoles ou dans la rue.
Le second aborde un aspect différent de ces quartiers, mais allant de pair avec le premier terme : la violence se développe plus facilement dans les quartiers défavorisés économiquement, que l'Etat semble avoir oubliés.

Quelqu'un pour m'aider à traduire ces deux termes ?

Explanation:
It sounds quite colloquial, but after some thought it is certainly how I would differentiate between the two.

Context is everything, however, and I would not suggest using "bad neighbourhood" in anything sociological (or official).
