: "In the bare landscape" it is that "чистое полюшко-поле, где лишь ветер свободный гуляет" I suppose.

to make a garden in the desert

It is very awkward wording. "Чистое поле" has a positive meaning, it means " rye/wheat grows only" or "wild flowering steppe, no trees", eather or - it is assosiated with a feeling of freedom. But it seems that the author tends to imply " a barren land where there is nothing but stones".

: "in", my dear, "a land" ."on a land" - there is nothing specific, it is not a place, could be a barren continent. An island. You can say it, would not be the best choice.Happy? Анд финиш мани сингз.
