working at the employer's house Explanation: According to Wahrig - German dictionary - this is mainly Swiss and Austrian, and is a term meaning "tageweise Arbeit im Haus des Kunden", especially referring to seamstresses, dressmakers etc. Here you might perhaps say she was "sewing at the Harrers'".
