La recherche d'hélicobacter reste négative (coloration au Giemsa muette).


I understand that "coloration au Giemsa" refers to "Giemsa stain"...but "muette" - how does that fit in? TIA

Giemsa stain unrevealing

The Giemsa stain is used to look for Helicobacter. Here, the stain failed to demonstrate the presence of the bug (recherche d'hélicobacter reste négative), i.e. the tissue did not take up the stain.

Obviously, if the tissue doesn't take up the stain, the result is negative. The author probably didn't want to repeat the word "négative".
