Discussion

margaret caulfield Jan 25, 2009:
Aoife, this is referring to the resolution which never comes at the end. Perhaps after said resolution, you're response would be more appropriate.

by virtue of the foregoing [and on the above grounds]

It's formulaic legal language. The part between brackets to my mind is entirely optional, if you want to be more literal, but it is not absolutely necessary.

in witness whereof

I believe this would be a case where "in witness whereof" should be used - standard legal parlance at the end of a legally binding document.
Peer comment(s):

disagree margaret caulfield : This would come at the end, yes, but where the sentence/affidavit, etc. is signed, which is not the case here.

Hi Margaret. I see what you mean now. It's not at the end buit rather right at the beginning "se resuelve..." etc.
neutral María Angélica Fernández : Yo traduzco "in witness whereof" como "en fe de lo cual"

That's also correct. This is legal boilerplate, there are many ways of expressing it in Spanish and Portuguese.
