: Can a cream be exacting? It's the old problem of animate and inanimate objects between the French and English. A cream can be disappointing to someone, certainly.

Well not as such no. But then, even accounting for the differences between Fr and En, it can't be considered to have DNA either. I don't think exacting is stretching it too far.

: The thing is, the authors of the Fr text have gone out of their way to produce something a bit different. Your suggestions are obviously fine, but they don't have the same originality as the French.

Agreed about the originality. It occurs me that I would agree more with your suggestion if it was "formulated to exacting standards, never to disappoint" or something like that - IMHumbleO bien sûr!

They should have written "et non pas/à l'encontre de l'infidélité".
Being up to scratch is its second nature, whereas letting you down is completely outside its frame of reference. My brain is too frazzled at the moment to think of a snappy way of putting that.

: while this is indeed helpful, the sentence is wrongly understood - it means "son ADN contient l'exigence mais ne comporte pas l'infidélité - la phrase est donc OK mais téléscopée

That's what I understood. Perhaps I should have written "l'exigence, et non pas l'infidèlité, est dans son ADN".
