I'm thinking this may be one of those words that don't have an equivalent in English. Even though it's not the same thing, "lifestyle" might fit in this context.

(Disclaimer: Not a native speaker of either English or German, I only translate from these languages...)

It's an architectural (philosophical)/sociogeographic term, so a bit academic,
Just a suggestion, but it conveys the (philosophical) sense of the original.
For something a bit more atmospheric, perhaps:
"sensual sense of dwelling".
Example sentence:

"...how...building helps constitute our sense of dwelling."

I'd reword it. I believe what is being conveyed is the thought that you are feeling right at home with Picasso himself, cozy as a guest in his home.
