This one is such a puzzler that I hadn't even intended to bother you all with it, but the feedback on my other stair design questions has been so helpful that I thought I'd give it a try! The problem is that the only clue I have consists in two drawings that quite honestly I find decidedly "enigmatic". Maybe someone expert in the sector can help shed some light. The drawings (screenshots from a stair design programme) are here:

Hi Sarah. This is an educated guess: 'Gradino' is step and 'telaio' is frame.

| I'm adding a note here, but it sort of applies to all these answers I think. The problem is that if I do a google on "framed step" or variant thereof, what comes up seems to me more of an "open stair/riser", whereas in my case, there seems to be a frame, yes, but also "tamponamento", so it wouldn't actually give an appearance of openness. Hope I've explained it OK! |

The diagrams are certainly ambiguous, as to whether they are both referring to the same component or not. I am inclined to think not, otherwise why would one tick box refer to a gradino personale and the other to an alzata personale? Also, the function of the semi-riser in this sort of application tends to be for reasons of modesty rather than safety (when it would be more logical to attach it to the upper surface of the tread) and clear glass would appear to defeat any modesty objective. It may just be as matter of aesthetic preference of course.
Glass treads are very trendy of course. The dimensions given do complicate things a little; as the frame is only 10mm thick, it is difficult to see how it could be used in conjunction with the riser in the second diagram; perhaps they are separate options.
I think it's a case for checking with the client; does gradino mean pedata in the first diagram?

On second thoughts, the 10mm is obviously variable and could presumably be much bigger if it were to be used with a riser.
