German term (edited): IM = Industriemeister
Selected

qualified foreman / master wood-/metalworker (industrial)

The "Industriemeister" is a qualification specific to German-speaking countries. "Qualified foreman" is a translation provided in the "IAB-Glossare" - see http://www.iab.de/de/192/section.aspx/Publikation/k041209n01 and http://www.kater-verlag.de/Katalog/product_info.php?products... - although I'd use a more specific equivalent, as follows:

IM-Holz = master woodworker (industrial) - see http://infobub.arbeitsagentur.de/berufe/start?dest=professio...

IM-Metall - master metalworker (industrial) - see http://infobub.arbeitsagentur.de/berufe/start?dest=professio...

agree Inge Meinzer : with your suggestion of using master

agree Ken Cox : 'foreman' is a functional (organisational) title; I wouldn't use it here. Perhaps the IM qualification and the position of foreman are closely related in practice, but that's irrelevant here.
